The client

As a Baton Rouge, LA-based eco-conscious company, Evera sought to combat the overwhelming single-use plastic pollution by offering a sustainable and convenient alternative. They envisioned an innovative product—the Evera Bottle, aimed at replacing disposable plastics. However, they needed expert assistance to transform this vision into a tangible, production-ready design that embodies sustainability, convenience, and functionality. This is where LA NPDT entered the picture.

The challenge

A reusable bottle only displaces single-use plastic if people carry it every day, so the design had to survive daily abuse and dishwashers, keep drinks cold, seal without leaking in a bag, and still hit a retail price a student or commuter would pay — using materials that are genuinely recyclable rather than a mixed-material shell that ends up in landfill.

Our solution

Our team collaborated closely with Evera, working diligently to convert their initial ideas, sketches, and 3D models into a manufacturing-ready design. Not only did we advise on the selection of food-grade stainless steel, plastic, and rubber materials for the bottle, but we also optimized the design for mass production. The focus was always on creating a product that marries durability, ease of use, and eco-friendliness.

The result

The Evera Bottle is more than just a reusable water bottle—it’s a planet-saving device. Each Evera Bottle replaces 156 disposable bottles and 114 disposable utensils annually per user.
This innovative design stands as a testament to Evera’s commitment to sustainability and the vital role LA NPDT’s technical expertise played in achieving this significant goal.
Through our partnership, we helped Evera bring their vision to life, creating a real and measurable impact in the fight against plastic pollution.
The success of the Evera Bottle is a powerful statement of what can be achieved when innovative ideas are coupled with technical expertise and a commitment to creating a cleaner, greener future.
This successful collaboration has led to numerous recognitions and awards for Evera’s founder, Steffek Rainey.
He has been acknowledged by the San Diego Business Journal, CISION, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
Moreover, Steffek received the prestigious President’s Environmental Youth Award, and the company was a finalist in the Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge.

  1. 01

    Market analysis

Launching into a crowded market, Evera Bottle needed a distinct advantage. Our team began by analyzing existing competitors, which not only informed our design direction but helped identify niches and gaps that Evera could uniquely fill. Sustainability being at the core of Evera’s vision, our review also gauged how competitors approached this crucial factor.
  2. 02

    Product design

Drawing from the competitive insights and prioritizing sustainability, we embarked on the design process. Our team engaged in iterative sketching, 3D modeling, and rendering to create a bottle that was not only environmentally friendly but also sleek and appealing to consumers.
  3. 03

    Engineering support

For Evera Bottle, aesthetics needed to pair seamlessly with function. Our multi-disciplinary engineers stepped in to ensure that the bottle met standards for durability, efficiency, and usability. They meticulously tackled challenges related to material choices, insulation properties, ergonomic features, and more, all while keeping the product’s environmental footprint in mind.
  4. 04

    Design for manufacturability

As with any sustainable product, production processes are crucial. It’s not enough to design an eco-friendly product; it must also be produced sustainably. With that in mind, our team optimized Evera Bottle’s design for efficient, cost-effective, and consistent manufacturing without diluting its sustainable essence.
Our collaboration with Evera Bottle underscored the importance of sustainability in modern product design. It was about more than just offering services; it was about intertwining the brand’s sustainable ethos into every facet of the product’s life cycle, from conception to production. Through our integrated approach, Evera Bottle emerged as a beacon of sustainable, user-centric, and innovative design in the market.
