Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to launch a product?
A simple consumer product with no electronics typically moves from concept to production-ready in four to eight months. Products with custom electronics, firmware or regulatory testing usually run nine to eighteen months. The schedule is driven by how many prototype rounds you need, not by CAD time.
What should I do first if I only have an idea?
Write down what the product must do, who buys it, and what it can cost to make. Then get an idea evaluation before any design work. A short feasibility read costs a fraction of a concept phase and frequently changes the direction of the project.
Do I need a patent before starting design?
Not usually. Most inventors file a provisional application once the concept is stable enough to describe, then pursue a non-provisional after prototyping confirms the design. Filing too early often means protecting a version you will not manufacture.
How much does it cost to develop a product?
Cost scales with complexity, not ambition. Simple molded products commonly land in the low five figures for full design and engineering; connected devices with custom PCBs and enclosures run higher. Staging the work phase by phase keeps the spend tied to proven progress.
