How it works
From a product description to a shortlist of names
Step 1
Describe the mechanism, not the vision
"A collapsible silicone bottle with a magnetic lid latch that stays sealed when compressed" gets a useful read. "A better water bottle" does not.
Step 2
Say who buys it and why
Market and value scores hinge on the buyer. Naming the user, the problem and the setting changes the analysis more than any other input.
Step 3
Read the low scores first
The dimension that scores worst is the one that decides whether this is worth money. Fix that assumption before you spend on tooling or filings.
Step 4
Treat it as a screen, then go deeper
This is an automated first pass in 20 seconds. A patentability opinion, real market research and a manufacturing cost model are separate, human pieces of work.
FAQ
Product naming questions we get asked
- How accurate is the score?
- It is a directional screen, not a measurement. The scores come from an AI review of what you typed against a fixed rubric, plus a keyword search of published patents. Two people describing the same idea differently will get different scores — which is itself useful information about how clearly the idea is defined.
- Is this legal advice or a patentability opinion?
- No. LA NPDT is a product development firm, not a law firm. The novelty score is a keyword-level signal only. A patentability or freedom-to-operate opinion requires a classification-based search and claim analysis by a registered patent practitioner.
- Do you keep or share my idea?
- We do not publish or sell what you type. It is sent to an AI model to produce the analysis and is not used to train anyone's model. Do not paste anything you consider a trade secret into any free online tool, ours included, before you have talked to your attorney.
- What score is good enough to build?
- There is no threshold that means "build it". A high score means nothing obvious is wrong; a low score means something specific is wrong and the analysis names it. The decision comes from validating the weakest assumption, not from the number.
- What does a deeper analysis involve?
- A structured prior-art search, a real cost-to-manufacture estimate at your target volume, a technical risk register against the actual mechanism, and buyer conversations. InventDraft handles the documentation side; our team runs the engineering and manufacturing side.
