The Product Discovery stage is where we begin our journey together. We work with you to understand your idea, its market potential, and its unique value proposition.

3 | Provisional Patent Application
To protect your intellectual property early in the process, we facilitate the filing of a provisional patent application.
Our legal partners assist in preparing and submitting the application, providing your product with a “patent pending” status that safeguards your idea while allowing for continued development and testing.
4 | Potential Consumer Survey
We validate your concept by gathering real-world feedback from potential customers. This stage involves conducting surveys to understand the needs, preferences, and pain points of your target audience.

5 | Technical Design & Engineering
During the Technical Design and Engineering stage, our engineering team develops detailed designs and technical specifications for every component of your product.
We create CAD models, perform simulations, and conduct technical evaluations to ensure that all parts meet functional and safety requirements.
6 | Prototyping
Prototyping brings your concept to life with a tangible, functional model. In this stage, we build prototypes to test and refine the design, ensuring it meets all requirements.

7 | Intellectual Property Protection

8 | Design for Manufacturing
The Design for Manufacturing stage involves optimizing the product for large-scale production. This includes selecting materials, refining the design for cost efficiency, and planning the entire production process. We address the supply chain, quality control, and all other nuances related to manufacturing the first batch, ensuring the product is ready for mass production.
9 | Marketing Materials
We develop comprehensive marketing materials, including packaging design, product photography, videos, and sales collateral.

Process map: common questions
What are the stages of the new product development process?
Ten stages: idea capture, market and need validation, prior art and IP check, requirements definition, concept design, engineering and CAD, prototyping, testing and validation, manufacturing preparation, and launch — which branches into licensing the design or producing it yourself.
Is there a printable new product development process flowchart?

How long does the full new product development process take?
Six to fourteen months is typical for consumer hardware from idea to production tooling. Simple products can compress to three or four months; regulated devices commonly run eighteen months or more.
Can stages of the process run in parallel?
Yes, and they should. Prior art searching runs alongside concept design, long-lead tooling quotes start during engineering, and certification testing is booked before the verification build exists. Serializing every stage is the single most common cause of a twelve-month program becoming a two-year one.
Where does licensing fit in the flowchart?
At stage ten. Licensing hands a proven, manufacturable design to a company that already sells into your market in exchange for royalties; venturing means you fund tooling and inventory and keep the margin. Both need the same first nine stages completed.
