LA NPDT is a new product development company that runs CAD in-house alongside engineering, prototyping, tooling, and launch.
Our 3D CAD services and 2D CAD drafting are built by the same team that will prototype the part, design it for manufacturing, and ship it, so the model on screen matches the unit that comes off the line.
One accountable team, no education tax handing files between vendors, and CAD that downstream prototyping, tooling, and rendering teams can actually use on day one.

Definition
What are 3D CAD services and 2D CAD drafting services?
3D CAD services turn an idea, sketch, or sample into a precise, parametric 3D model that downstream teams can manufacture, render, animate, or scan. 2D CAD drafting produces the dimensionally accurate engineering drawings, in the right file formats, that machinists, mold makers, and reviewers actually need to build the part. Done together, they are the single source of truth for the product.

2D CAD drafting services

We 3D scan a physical part and rebuild it as clean parametric CAD, so legacy parts and one-off prototypes can be modified, manufactured, or improved.
- 07File conversion & cleanup
Convert and repair STEP, IGES, Parasolid, STL, OBJ, DWG, DXF, and native files so the model is usable in the next tool, not just the one it was born in.

From sketch to manufacturable model
From sketch to manufacturable model
Send a JPG, PDF, TIFF, or sample, get back production-grade CAD
Most of our CAD projects start with something rough: a hand sketch on a napkin, a screenshot, a competitor product, or a 3D printed prototype that needs to be cleaned up for tooling. When the input is a physical part, we route it through our 3D scanning services first so the CAD rebuild starts from real measured geometry. We meet the project where it is and walk it forward.
Our designers translate that input into a clean, parametric CAD model with proper feature history, real materials, and the engineering drawings to go with it, so the file is useful to a machinist, a mold maker, or an investor without any rework.
How we work
How we work
Our CAD engagement, step by step
A repeatable path from input file to a manufacturable CAD package. Hover any phase to expand it. Every phase ends with a deliverable and a quick sign-off so revisions stay cheap.
01 Brief & inputs Tell us what the part has to do. +
We capture the function, target materials, manufacturing method, and any reference sketches, photos, or sample parts. The brief becomes the reference for every later decision.
Deliverable: Project brief and input inventory.
02 Concept & block model Lock the form before the detail. +
We build a rough parametric block model to confirm proportions, fit, and intent. Cheaper to change a shape here than after every fillet is in.
Deliverable: Concept block model with reference views.
03 Detailed 3D modeling Production-grade CAD, not a sketch. +
Parametric features, real materials, mating surfaces, fasteners, draft angles, and design for the chosen manufacturing process. Built to be edited, not rebuilt.
Deliverable: Native CAD plus STEP and IGES exports.
04 2D drawings & documentation Drawings the shop can actually use. +
Engineering drawings with proper views, dimensions, GD&T, BOM, and a title block. Drawings are reviewed against the model so nothing drifts.
Deliverable: PDF drawing package and DWG / DXF source.
05 Rendering & animation Make it look like the real product. +
Studio lighting, photoreal materials, and optional animation or exploded views. Same CAD model, marketing-ready output for the deck, the site, or the campaign.
Deliverable: High-resolution renders and optional MP4 animation.
06 Hand-off & revisions Ready for tooling, printing, or licensing. +
We hand off the full CAD package, walk you through the file structure, and stay on call for the inevitable small revisions during prototyping or manufacturing.
Deliverable: Released CAD package and revision log.

Rendering & animation
Rendering & animation
Marketing-ready visuals from the same CAD model
The CAD model that goes to manufacturing is the same one that drives the photoreal render, the exploded view, and the animation. One source of truth, no mismatched art and engineering files later in the program.
That means the hero image on your crowdfunding page, the exploded view in the pitch deck, and the dimensioned drawing on the shop floor all come from the same geometry, and all stay in sync when the design changes.
Product developer vs traditional CAD agency
Product developer vs traditional CAD agency
LA NPDT vs traditional CAD services agency
| Area | Traditional CAD shop or freelancer | LA NPDT |
|---|---|---|
| Single accountable team (no coordination tax) | You manage CAD shop, prototyping vendor, tooling vendor, and renderer separately. Hand-offs and finger-pointing become your job. | One PM owns CAD, prototyping, DFM, tooling, and renders. One schedule, one invoice, one team accountable for the outcome. |
| No education tax | Spends days reading your deck and still asks questions you already answered before drawing the first feature. | Already lived through the product with you. No re-briefing on what the part does, how it mates, or why a tolerance matters. |
| Modeling discipline | Surfaces that look right but break under edits and rebuild cycles. | Parametric features with a clean tree, built to edit through every revision. |
| Drawings | Pretty views without proper tolerances or GD&T. | Production drawings reviewed by an engineer, scoped against ASME Y14.5. |
| Rendering | Screenshot from the modeling tool, mismatched with the manufactured unit. | Studio-lit photoreal renders from the exact CAD that drives tooling. |
| File formats | Whatever the modeler had installed. | Native plus STEP, IGES, DWG, DXF, STL on request. |
| Lifecycle support | Hands over a file and disappears. Every revision is a new RFP. | Stays on the part through prototyping, tooling revisions, rev B, and line extensions. |
| Outcome | A model that looks correct on screen. | A model the shop, the renderer, and the patent attorney all accept on the first pass. |
No project is beyond our capabilities.

Animation & exploded views
Animation & exploded views
Explain how the product works in seconds, not paragraphs
For complex assemblies, a 30-second animation does what a page of copy never will. We use the production CAD model to generate exploded views, mechanism animations, and assembly sequences for the pitch deck, the site, and the trade show booth.
- Assembly and disassembly sequences
- Mechanism and motion animations
- Exploded views for documentation and packaging
- 4K renders ready for print, web, and video

Why it matters
- 01What good CAD actually gets you
A clean CAD package is the single most leveraged file in a product program. It feeds tooling, prototyping, marketing, licensing, and the patent. Get it right once and every downstream cost drops.
- 02Faster decisions
Stakeholders can see, rotate, and react to the actual product, not a description of it. Approvals that took weeks shrink to a single call.
- 03Lower risk
Manufacturable features, real materials, and proper drawings catch fit and process issues before tooling, when changes are still cheap.
- 04Scale-ready
The same CAD model drives prototyping, tooling, rendering, animation, and the patent illustrations, so every deliverable stays in sync.
