The client

On-Time Wildlife Feeders, a family owned business that creates a wide variety of deer feeder products partnered with LA NPDT, a 3D printing place and product development company.

The challenge

On-Time Wildlife Feeders ordered custom 3D prints of the cover of one of their new electronic products.

Our solution

The best 3D printing service begins with reviewing the design for possible flaws or potential issues. We identified a couple of areas for improvement and corrected the 3D model to achieve better results with 3D printing and to make mass production more streamlined. We used SLA 3D printing technoogy to create the first prototype of the cover out of hard resin material. After printing, we assembled and tested the prototype.

The result

By 3D printing a prototype of their electronics enclosure On-Time Wildlife Feeders was able to save time and money on correcting the design issues after creating injection molding tooling. The company was also able to present their newest product at a trade show and receive orders even before the product was produced via injection molding.
If you have a new product entering your line up, contact us to learn about the best 3D printing service methods. We not only create prototypes but also improve the design before you move your product to mass production.

Printing is the easy half

Anyone can send a file to a printer. The value is in choosing the process and material for what the part must survive, orienting it so layer lines fall where stress does not, designing tolerances that account for the process, and finishing the part so it reads as a product rather than a print.

When each process wins

  • FDM - cheap, fast, good for fit checks and large parts
  • SLA/resin - fine detail and smooth surfaces for appearance models
  • SLS nylon - functional parts, living hinges, no support scarring
  • Large-format - full-size machine panels and fixtures without splitting

Frequently asked questions

How much does 3D printing cost?

Small prototype parts commonly run $20-$200 each; large or SLS parts scale with volume and material.

Can you fix my file if it will not print?

Yes - and if the geometry itself is the problem, we revise the design rather than force a bad print.

Can 3D printed parts be used for production?

For low volumes, often yes. Above a few hundred units, moulding is usually cheaper and we will say so.
