LA NPDT is different: we design and engineer the part first, then build it by SLA, FDM, SLS, CNC machining, urethane casting or soft-goods fabrication, wire in electronics and firmware where the product needs them, and ship to New York in two to three days. Simple printed parts start in the low hundreds; an engineered functional prototype typically runs $4,000 to $25,000 depending on complexity.
The distinction matters because most failed prototypes are not printing failures. They are design failures that printed perfectly: wall sections that warp, snap fits that never had a calculated deflection, a battery that will not fit once the board is real.

Freight to the five boroughs is typically two to three days ground; overnight is available when a date is at risk.

Where we are — and why that works for a New York client
Short answer
LA NPDT is not based in New York. Our engineers work from Ruston, Louisiana, and serve New York clients remotely: shared CAD, a weekly review with the engineer doing the work, prototypes in two to three days, and travel when a project genuinely needs someone in the room. The "LA" in our name is Louisiana.
We run on Central time, one hour behind Eastern, and work late — so a question raised during a New York working day gets answered the same day, not the next morning.
Our overhead in Louisiana is a fraction of what a studio pays for space and staff in a coastal or top-ten metro, so the same senior engineering hours cost you less. What does not change is who does the work: practising mechanical, electrical, firmware and software engineers, not account managers passing files to subcontractors.

Where can I get a prototype made in New York?
Bureaus such as Makelab in Brooklyn, PrintAWorld, Emulatics and Kemperle print from files you supply. We are the option for when the files do not exist yet or the design itself needs fixing — we engineer the part, build it and ship it to New York in two to three days.
How much does a 3D printed prototype cost?
Printed parts from finished CAD typically run $150 to $900. An engineered functional prototype built from a sketch runs $4,000 to $25,000, and a connected prototype with a custom PCB and firmware $12,000 to $60,000.
I only have sketches and photos. Can you still build it?
Yes — that is the normal starting point for us. We turn sketches into CAD, engineer the mechanism, then build. A print bureau cannot quote until someone has done that step.
Are you located in New York?
No. Our engineering base is in Ruston, Louisiana — the "LA" in our name is Louisiana, not Los Angeles. New York clients work with us remotely: weekly reviews with your engineer, shared CAD, and prototypes shipped in two to three days.
Does working remotely slow the project down?
It has not. Reviews happen weekly with the engineer doing the work rather than an account manager, files are shared live, and prototypes move by freight rather than by car — which is how they would move in your own city anyway.
Do you charge more for out-of-state clients?
No. Rates are the same wherever you are; only shipping cost varies. Our Louisiana overhead is why the same senior engineering hours cost less than a big-metro studio.
Will you sign an NDA?
Yes, before the first technical conversation. Files and IP transfer to you as the project closes out.
Can you build prototypes with working electronics?
Yes. Schematic capture, PCB layout, firmware, battery and power design are in house, so an electronic prototype is one project rather than a mechanical vendor plus an electronics vendor.
